Very natural results. My coworkers just keep telling me I look rested. The follow-up call a week later was a nice touch.

I've had Botox at a few places and this was the most precise. My crow's feet softened without that frozen look. Will be back in three months.

What is Botox?

Botox is the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatment in the United States. It is a purified neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes the specific muscles that crease the skin when you frown, squint or raise your eyebrows. With those muscles at rest, the lines on top of them soften and new lines are less likely to form.

In experienced hands the goal is not a frozen face. A skilled injector adjusts the dose and placement so you still look like yourself — just less tired, less stressed and more refreshed. Similar products include Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau and Daxxify, and your provider will recommend the one that fits your goals.

How the treatment works

Your provider studies how your face moves, marks the treatment points and uses a very fine needle to place small amounts of product into targeted muscles. Most appointments take 15 to 20 minutes, and the discomfort is often compared to a quick pinch.

What Botox can help with

  • Forehead lines

  • Frown lines between the brows (the "11s")

  • Crow's feet around the eyes

  • Bunny lines on the nose

  • Lip flip and gummy smile

  • Jaw clenching and a slimmer jawline (masseter)

  • Excessive underarm sweating

Before and after your appointment

  1. Avoid alcohol, fish oil and blood thinners you can safely skip for a few days before treatment to reduce bruising.
  2. Small bumps at the injection points fade within about 20 minutes.
  3. Stay upright for four hours and skip strenuous exercise for the rest of the day.
  4. Book a two-week follow-up so your provider can fine-tune the result if needed.

Most patients describe a brief pinch. Needles are extremely fine, the appointment is short, and ice or numbing cream can make it more comfortable.

Not with a conservative, well-placed treatment. Providers can use lower doses to soften lines while preserving natural expression, and it is always easier to add a little more at follow-up than to undo too much.

There is no single right age. Some patients start in their late 20s or 30s to soften lines as they begin to form ("preventive Botox"); others start later to treat established lines.

Botox has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002 and has an excellent safety record when administered by trained, licensed providers. Temporary side effects can include bruising, headache or, rarely, a drooping brow or eyelid that resolves as the product wears off.
