It is very manageable. Tell your provider before the appointment: we usually prescribe an antiviral such as valacyclovir starting the day before treatment and continuing for a few days after, which greatly reduces the chance of an outbreak. If you have an active cold sore on the day, we reschedule — injecting through one can spread it. With that plan, having a history of cold sores is not a reason to avoid lip filler.
Is lip filler safe if I have a history of cold sores?

I get cold sores two or three times a year, usually when I am stressed. I would love lip filler but I am worried the needle will trigger an outbreak.

Agreed. I also avoid treating right before a stressful event or long flight for patients who are prone to outbreaks, since that is often the trigger in the first place.
